Why Baked Lettuce? Years ago I was looking through an 'international' recipe book with my flatmates. One of the national dishes of New Zealand was baked lettuce, which no-one I know seems to be aware of. So when I was trying to think up a food blog name it seemed kind of appropriate (and available). (For the record, we didn't try the recipe, it sounded pretty unpleasant).
And why yet another food blog, anyway? There are recipes (or approximate formulations) that I use a lot, and I can remember my modifications every time. But when I try a new recipe then I often think of things to change and forget them by the time I try it again. Or sometimes I forget which recipe it was that I tried.
I was looking through the Edmonds cookbook one day, and finding all sorts of things I'd never tried that looked interesting. So I decided I needed to keep a record of what I had tried, and what was worth trying again. (And what was truly awful - while I do have a soft spot for colonial cooking, some of the things that sound like a good idea when you can't get the 'right' ingredients are a bit terrifying...)
